You probably assume that all professional athletes go to extreme measures to take care of their body.
If your career, paycheck, and legacy depend on your physical performance, then it would seem very logical to invest substantial amounts of time, energy, and money into maintaining optimal performance.
In professional sports, this is not the norm.
I am appalled at most of what I see professional athletes doing.
Most professional athletes are leaving millions of dollars on the table and cutting their careers short by not doing everything in their power to achieve optimal recovery and performance.
Tom Brady is one of the best NFL quarterbacks of all time and he has recently been more outspoken on this topic and has shared why he has been able to stay healthy for so long.
NBA All-Star Kyle Korver has also made drastic changes over the past five years to optimize his performance, take care of his body, and get better at an age where very few can even still make an NBA team.
The topic of performance is something that fascinates me and it is something that I have been obsessively learning about for over 20 years!
Many of the athletes that I work with tell me the exact same thing.
They all wish that they would have understood the importance of nutrition, supplementation, and taking care of their body before it was too late and their career was over.
My client and great friend, John Madsen, has an awesome story about this exact topic, and I recently interviewed John and he shares his entire story.
John played for the Oakland Raiders for three years and he now owns John Madsen Performance where he trains elite high school, college, and professional athletes.
He also works with athletes training for the NFL combine.
In this interview, I ask John the following questions:
Tell me about the struggles you have had with nutrition in the past.
Tell me about your philosophy with nutrition in college and in the NFL. Did this approach work for you?
How were you first exposed to the real food or Paleo Lifestyle?
What was it like when you first started a Paleo Diet? What were some of the challenges and struggles that you had at first?
What did you do to overcome these challenges?
What have your results been following a Paleo Diet? What are the biggest changes or improvements that you have noticed?
What do you wish that you knew when you were playing in the NFL that you know now?
Any last words of advice or encouragement for your clients and friends listening to this interview?
Thanks for checking out this interview and please make sure to post any questions or comments below and I will be sure to respond ASAP!
